Trees: Method 3

Create two or three planes, and give each one a unique texture:

In this example, the three planes are tilted inwards and a trunk is made from a truncated cone with a separate bark texture. It should be possible to keep the planes purely vertical and use the trunks that come with each image, but from different angles the trunk may appear to change.

Advantages:

  • No mirroring
  • Fairly simple to make
  • By randomly rotating the tree objects, you can create the illusion of lots of variety, since the tree will look different from each angle.

Disadvantages:

  • You need to find two or three good textures just to make one tree
  • You may have to edit the images to give them a similar colour tone.
